LAST Sunday over a hundred people turned out in support of a family who were violently assaulted in their Glen Road home in West Belfast by three adult men. For change and challenge to racism we need strong leadership from governments, but that is not forth-coming in many countries.

THE visit by a group of Unionists to Israel this week has created a fair amount of coverage in the news. The group, including members from all three main unionist parties, embarked on their trip to Israel last week, lasting several days. The trip was organised and funded by the Israeli government.

written in the West. And as long as the East keeps working for free, and the West keeps defining what “normal” means, the country may be united on paper — but not in experience.
Despite Trump’s usual hyperbole, the super-heated US economy is substantially more fragile than it appears. When the downturn becomes impossible to ignore – how many more statisticians can he possibly sack? – the tend will be to blame it on external and internal enemies. The predictable response will be to accelerate the authoritarian measures already being implemented.
THE satirist Tom Lehrer once commented that “Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel peace prize.” What would he have made of its recent award to Venezuelan “opposition” leader Mara Corina Machado or that the person who covets it most, Donald Trump does so for no more profound reason than self-aggrandisement?
As Marxist-Leninists we must analyse the cause and effect of this assassination, and discuss what it means for the communist movement more broadly. With this in mind it is beyond understandable as to why many on the left celebrated his assassination. He certainly does not deserve to be remembered fondly and the policies he supported and his efforts in promoting them laid the foundations for his assassination.
