The Irish Communist Party/Páirtí Cumannach Éireann condemns unequivocally the ban on the Communist Party of Poland declared by the Polish constitutional court earlier this month.
We stand in absolute solidarity with our comrades in Poland who refuse to allow the achievements of socialist Poland to be written out of history. Even as we in Ireland grapple with another housing crisis, Poland still maintains one of the 4th highest home ownership rates in the world, the consequence of the inheritance of socialist Poland’s housing laws.
Poland today is tied to the failing European Union, and the imposition of austerity on the working people to ensure the profits of the big corporations. The Communist party of Poland stands firmly against this.
Poverty and injustice is rife in contemporary Poland. The Communist Party of Poland advocates policies of free universal education and healthcare. It advocates nationalisation of major industries, and criticises capitalist privatisation and the stranglehold of NATO over the countries of Eastern Europe. It’s a progressive party that stands by the working people of Poland and their quest for a better life.
The banning of the KPP is proof that it is not the supposed totalitarian of socialist Poland they object to, but the fact that the KPP upholds the rights of Poland’s working class. It is the new rulers of Poland who practice totalitarian suppression of political currents that threaten their profits.
Irish communists stand with our Polish brothers and sisters in the Communist Party of Poland! We call on all progressive forces in Ireland to raise their voices in solidarity and to condemn this reactionary ban.
